McCain Committed Obstruction Of Justice According To Republican Arizona Attorney General

If only one traditional media person reads this, PLEASE just ask one simple question to both John McCain and the former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods (Woods is one of the guys leading the effort to exonerate Siegelman in Alabama):

Did John McCain "pressure" the then-Attorney General Grant Woods in 1996, to "lay off" on a state investigation into the then-Governor Fife Symington in his alleged corroruption involving real estate dealings?  And when Woods said, "no", did John McCain physically touch Woods in a threatening manner and threaten him of political ruin if he didn't lay off Symington?

All of this happened.  How do I know?  I was told this right to my face by Attorney General Grant Woods in 1998.  Btw, isn't trying to impede a lawful investigation a felony?  Scooter Libby and many others in Washington have gone to prison for less.

The story told to me was that McCain walked in Woods' office (they were friendly at the time) in 1996 and presure Woods not to launch an AG investigation into Governor Fife Symington (btw, McCain and Fife were and are still now thisclose, they adore each other).  When Woods told McCain, "no", and that he had a duty of his office to investigate, McCain blew up with one his his countless mercurial tempers and jabbed his finger (hard) into Woods' chest, telling him he better not investigate or their friendship as well as Woods' future within the Republican Party would be "over."  When Woods replied that he had no choice but to do his duty, McCain then grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt and swore at him and told him he was "through" regarding being anything within the Republican Party.

McCain and Woods were enemies from that point on until patching things up just within the past couple of years.  And Woods' "future" within the AZ GOP was indeed "over."  He hasn't held office there since.  Btw, Fife Symington ended up resigning his governorship in disgrace after being indicted in 1997 and the then-Sec of State Jane Hull took over.

Hehe, my first diary here.  I hope someone with some connections could get these questions asked.

Any journalist or former government employee (4.00 / 3)
who has any knowledge of a crime committed by the current or potential president, better freaking SPEAK UP! No saving it for the book....

This guy McCain has committed such illegal and unethical acts, (4.00 / 3)
he shouldn't even be in the position to run for president.  Keating Five Scandal, etc.

And this shouldn't be that close of a race.  Dick Morris said that presidential campaigns are won or lost during the summer when one of the candidates can effectively be defined sooner than the other wants.  Take the swiftboat liars:  all the damage they done, they done in JULY and AUGUST of 2004.  And THAT defined him, not the damn DNC convention.  Hell, Kerry's STILL defined by that.  My mom the other day, who is a Democrat, even parrotted something about Kerry that was purely swiftboat.

Obama's GOT to go after John McCain and define him NOW if the media won't ask the hard questions.

For some reason, it seems that Obama has some pathological and deep-seated psychological need for Republicans to like him.  Seriously.  It's weird.

This May Not Be Illegal (0.00 / 0)
Just tres scandalous.

Generally speaking, obstruction charges are rarely brought unless someone is warned first.  That's because otherwise there's an clearly visible slippery slope that could easily lead to systemic abuse.

It's easy to see that McCain was way out of line, and clearly abusing his power to protect a criminal. That's where the focus should be.

I'd just like someone in the traditional media (0.00 / 0)
to ask both Woods about it and then McCain.  That's all.  Woods first, THEN McCain, because Woods will tell the truth and then McCain will lie about it.  With Woods telling the truth about this first, it'll ad some veracity to the scandal.

For some reason, it seems that Obama has some pathological and deep-seated psychological need for Republicans to like him.  Seriously.  It's weird.

I'm just saying, don't ask about it in a way that can be deflected using legalisms.  Ask about what he did, as opposed to (even implicitly) whether he could be prosecuted for it.

Why wasn't this reported on 10 years ago? (0.00 / 0)
Or was it?

it wasn't. (0.00 / 0)
John McCain ran the media there back then.  Not so much anymore.  Grant told me he didn't report McCain because he still thought he could have a future with the Republicans.  Pro-choice, pro-gay, pro-environment, and anti-war and anti-corporate Grant Woods naively thought the GOP would morph back into a sort of Rockefeller big tent.

Well, it didn't.  And that's why he's now one of Napolitano's biggest backers.  So much so that in the horrendous event McCain gets elected president or the spectacular news that after losing his presidential race, he resigns his seat, Woods, still being a registered Republican would be appointed by Janet as a seat-warmer for her inevitable run in 2010.

For some reason, it seems that Obama has some pathological and deep-seated psychological need for Republicans to like him.  Seriously.  It's weird.
